Although most of us head to a pizzeria or order in when we get a craving for pizza, with a little planning you can make your own. Use our super-simple recipe for pizza dough then let your imagination run wild with toppings to create a real flavor of Italy from the comfort of your own home.
Pizza is very easy to make but just be aware that the dough needs about 2 ½ hours to prove and double in size so make sure that you have enough time to prepare it in advance.
Homemade Pizza
Makes 4 pizzas
500 g all-purpose flour
7 g powdered yeast
3 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
300 ml water
(extra virgin olive oil to grease the bowl)
Knead all ingredients together. If the dough is too wet, add a little more flour.
Place the dough in a bowl lightly greased with olive oil. Cover with greased plastic wrap and leave to rise for 2 ½ hours or until it doubles in size.
Preheat the oven to 240°C/464°F.
Turn the dough out of the bowl, knead gently and divide it into four individual pieces. Cover with a clean cloth and leave to rest while you prepare the toppings.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Place the pizzas onto a baking tray and, before you add the toppings, cook on the lower level of the oven for 10 minutes.
Take the pizza out of the oven, add your chosen toppings then place back into the middle of the oven for a further 10 minutes, until the edges are golden and crispy.
Buon appetito!
